Oru Designs - December 22nd Update
Share
As shared in recent communications, Oru Designs is in a focused reinforcement phase centered on long-term durability, production consistency, and improved support systems. This update is intended to clarify key questions we’ve received, confirm current priorities, and outline where things stand as we move toward production of the reinforced V3 wall system.
This update is intended to clarify current decisions and priorities; additional details will be shared as engineering validation and service planning move into execution.
Reinforcement Status
Our reinforcement phase remains active and focused on two parallel priorities:
- Final validation of a reinforced wall system designed for long-term, real-world use
- Strengthening the operational structure that supports production, service, and customer communication
Engineering validation and operational improvements are progressing together to ensure decisions made now support reliability and consistency over the long term.
V3 Hard Wall System – Engineering Update
The V3 Hard Wall System is our next-generation pop-up wall design, engineered to improve durability, comfort, and long-term reliability in real-world conditions.
Instead of relying on traditional mechanical hinges, the V3 system uses a hingeless hybrid construction that combines rigid structural panels, insulated cushioning, and a flexible fabric exterior. The rigid panels provide strength, shape, and wind resistance, while the insulated layer improves temperature control and reduces wear over time. The exterior fabric allows smooth, controlled movement during setup and collapse while maintaining weather resistance.
This design preserves the solid feel and protection of hard walls while reducing mechanical stress points commonly found in traditional pop-up systems. The result is a stronger, quieter, and more resilient wall system built for extended use in changing climates.
Key elements of the V3 system include:
- Marine-grade fabric designed for durability and weather resistance
- Integrated rigid structural panels for strength and wind resistance
- Insulated and wrapped panel construction to improve thermal performance
- Hingeless wall architecture that reduces mechanical stress points
- Fully functioning zip-open window panels with integrated mosquito-net screens, located on both sides and corner sections of the wall system, allowing adjustable airflow when conditions permit
The V3 Hard Wall System is weather-resistant, rated for long-term outdoor use, and designed for easy maintenance with simple periodic fabric resealing. As with all Oru tents to date, we have never represented our tents as weatherproof. Proper setup, use, and site conditions remain essential for optimal performance in varied environments.
The engineering team continues to test the V3 system across varied conditions. Good progress has been made, and we are approaching production readiness. Additional time has been intentionally invested to ensure this design addresses issues observed in some campers while significantly improving performance and durability moving forward.
Customer Commitments and Priority Sequencing
V3 as the Standard Going Forward
- All campers purchased moving forward will be built with the reinforced V3 wall system.
- The current estimated production lead time is 10–12 weeks from the time the final invoice is paid, subject to completion of engineering validation and production scheduling.
Warranty-Related Wall Concerns
- Oru has not issued a recall.
- Not all campers, and not all hinge components, were affected or qualify for warranty replacement.
- Warranty determinations are made on a case-by-case basis based on inspection, documentation, and warranty criteria.
All outstanding warranty-related wall concerns currently in our system that do qualify for service will be addressed through an upgrade to the reinforced V3 wall system. These upgrades will be coordinated through our structured service workflow to ensure proper installation, quality control, and consistent results.
Our first priority remains addressing qualifying warranty cases already in our system.
Optional V3 Upgrades (Non-Warranty)
We have also received questions from customers interested in upgrading their camper walls to the V3 system even if they do not have a qualifying warranty issue.
We are currently working through pricing, upgrade pathways, and installation logistics. Details for optional V3 upgrades will be shared once those elements are finalized. At this time, priority remains supporting qualifying warranty-related cases before opening optional upgrade pathways.
Replacement Units, Warranty Coverage, and Validation Transparency
We have received thoughtful questions from owners regarding warranty coverage for V3 replacement units, the in-field validation process, and what information will be available to help owners make informed decisions.
For qualifying warranty-related wall replacements, any V3 replacement unit will be supported under Oru’s existing warranty framework. Specific warranty parameters for replacement units will be communicated directly as part of the service coordination process.
The V3 Hard Wall System is currently undergoing structured validation across varied conditions. This includes controlled testing, real-world use scenarios, and evaluation of long-term durability characteristics. Validation is intentionally being completed prior to full production rollout to ensure owners are not asked to make decisions without sufficient information.
Once validation milestones are complete, we will share additional detail regarding the testing process, duration, and performance considerations so owners can make informed choices regarding replacement or upgrade pathways.
Operations and Support Update
As outlined in our December 15 update, Oru Designs has strengthened its operations and support structure and consolidated production oversight at our Vista, CA headquarters to centralize engineering validation, quality control, and production coordination.
Our founders continue to guide product vision and engineering direction, while an expanded operations team manages day-to-day workflow, customer communication, and internal coordination.
We recognize that response times for phone and email inquiries were delayed during this transition period. Our team continues to actively work through a significant backlog of calls and emails, with all inquiries addressed in the order received to ensure accuracy and fairness.
Clarification on Phone Support and AI Voice Assistance
Human support remains central to how we assist customers. AI Voice-assisted tools are being introduced only as a support layer to help ensure calls are captured, documented, and routed when our team is assisting other customers or when calls come in after hours. These tools are intended to support timely processing, not replace human engagement.
What to Expect Next
Our next update will focus on progress made since this reinforcement phase began, including:
- Engineering validation milestones
- Production sequencing for V3-equipped campers
- Service and installation planning framework
- What customers can expect in early January
What This Update Does Not Change
This update does not constitute a product recall, does not alter existing warranty terms, and does not modify previously communicated order agreements. Additional updates will be shared as decisions are finalized and milestones are reached.
Looking Ahead
The steps outlined above reflect a deliberate effort to reinforce both our products and the systems that support them. By clarifying warranty scope, confirming V3 as our standard, prioritizing qualifying warranty cases, and strengthening operations, we are focused on building a more durable, reliable, and sustainable Oru for the long term.
We appreciate the continued patience and engagement of our customers and community as this reinforcement phase continues.
